Great Britain: Lufthansa advertising banned due to misleading impression

Lufthansa promoted its “Green Fares” in Great Britain with the slogan “Fly more sustainably”. The British advertising regulator did not agree with this.

A Lufthansa advertisement for sustainable flying has been banned in Great Britain. The ad creates a misleading impression of the company’s environmental friendliness, said the British advertising regulator Advertising Standards Authority.

The slogan “Fly more sustainably” was criticized. It is said that the “Green Fares” option advertised reduces some of the environmental impact when traveling with the airline. However, the supervisory authority came to the conclusion that the basis for the claim “flying more sustainably” was not clearly stated in the advertisement. According to the British news agency PA, Lufthansa said it would no longer use the slogan in future advertising.

Similar ads from Air France and Etihad, which also appeared on the Google search engine in the UK in July, were banned on the same grounds.
