There will be a demonstration on Vienna’s Reumannplatz at 10 a.m. The warning strikes will continue tomorrow, the second shopping Saturday, as the APA union confirmed.

With the St. Mary’s Day being open for shopping and the second shopping Saturday in Advent, retailers are facing a potentially particularly high-sales extended shopping weekend. It is still unclear how many businesses will be affected by Saturday’s work stoppages. The union has also announced rallies in several federal states for Saturday. The warning strikes are set to continue next week.

The Handels-KV is about the salaries of 430,000 employees and apprentices. It is the second largest collective agreement in Austria. In five rounds, the social partners have so far failed to reach a salary agreement for 2024. The union is insisting on an increase of at least the level of annual inflation. That would be 9.2 percent. Employers recently offered 8 percent.
