Upper Austrian Chamber of Commerce wants the lockdown to end on December 12th

LINZ / VIENNA. The Upper Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKOÖ) takes the falling corona numbers as an opportunity to call for the lockdown to be ended on December 12th, as at the federal level.

As reported, Governor Thomas Stelzer wants to keep Upper Austria in lockdown at least until December 17th. In order to minimize “the damage to the domestic stationary trade”, it needs an opening at the same time as that in the other federal states, so Ernst Wiesinger, Chairman of the Retail Division, in a broadcast on Friday. The buying behavior of customers would not stop at the federal state borders.

Many other companies and sectors also spoke up and called for openings on December 12th: For Wolfgang Suitner, federal spokesman for event companies, an end to the lockdown is “existentially necessary”: The rumors about an extension for individual sectors, including the event sector, be a slap in the face.

Thermal baths hope for the Christmas holidays

An extension of the lockdown is emotionally and economically no longer achievable for many companies, said Christian Hörl, industry spokesman for fitness studios.

Many thermal spas would also reach the limits of what is possible, says thermal spokesman Patrick Hochhauser (Eurothermen): During the Christmas holidays there would be the possibility of at least cushioning the previous economic losses.

The dance schools also feel trodden on their feet: The current situation is depressing and exhausting. The majority of sales are generated in the autumn and winter months. The cinema, cultural and entertainment companies as well as the florists also got in touch.

“Keeping the hotels closed would be legally difficult to maintain,” said the Austrian Hotel Association (ÖHV, President: Michaela Reitterer). This kind of discrimination against other industries and destinations would be untenable, especially because hotels have stricter rules than other areas.
