Javier Milei will receive senior officials from the US and the Treasury

High American officials of the National Security Council and Treasury will visit Argentina later this week, an important sign of support days after the president Javier Milei took office, according to Reuters.

Deputy National Security Advisor Mike Pyle will be in Buenos Aires on Wednesday, according to three sources who asked not to be identified because the travel schedule is not yet public.

The top international official at the US Treasury, Jay Shambaugh, will travel to Buenos Aires later this week, two of the above sources and one additional said, with one adding that he would seek to meet with lithium companies. The Treasury official is also expected to Michael Kaplan trip to Argentina, two sources said.

The plans have not been previously reported. High-profile visits to the United States are unusual at such an early stage in Milei’s fledgling administration, which faces an enormous challenge to defuse the worst economic crisis. “We want to show that we are here to support this government,” NSC senior director for the Western Hemisphere, Juan González, told Reuters during an interview in Buenos Aires before the inauguration.
