Steel production fell 10% annually in November

December 20, 2023 – 20:22

The drop was similar to that registered in October (9.9%). In the production of laminates the decline was even greater: 13.2%.

The steel production fell 10% in November compared to the same month last year, due to the lack of foreign currency to pay for imports of basic inputs, reported the Argentine Steel Chamber (CAA).

The fall was similar (precisely 9.9%) compared to the previous month (October), although the production of laminates, in one month, registered an even greater decrease: 13.2%, the information highlights.

The construction sector also showed a sharp decline during November: cement shipments fell 9.5% compared to October and 10.8% in the year-on-year comparison.

For its part, the automotive sector showed an increase of 8.9% compared to the previous month and 6% compared to the same month last year.

The CAA requires advancing a mechanism that boosts access to foreign currency

The CAA reaffirms the need to be able to quickly advance a mechanism that allows for dynamizing access to foreign currency, in order to normalize access to critical inputs for the production process.

The CAA statement adds that agricultural machines and implements, like the energy sector, continued without major changes, although with good expectations for the coarse harvest.

Steel shipments to appliance manufacturers fell

In the mass consumption market, on the one hand, shipments to household appliance manufacturers decreased and: on the other, the packaging sector continues with a good level of activity.

He also expresses concern about the impact that the increase in the country’s tax may have on industrial exports.
