During the Christmas season, millions of households maintain the tradition of setting up and decorating a Christmas tree. So that it stands straight and has a firm footing, it is put in a Christmas tree stand. The consumer portal “askgeorge.com” has tested various models.
In Germany alone, almost 30 million Christmas trees were sold last year – that is from a current (as of August 2019). In most households it is set up shortly before or on Christmas Eve. It will be dismantled no later than the day of the Three Kings, i.e. January 6th. So that it can stay that long without drying out, it must be watered regularly. This is made possible by a Christmas tree stand, which on the one hand can be used as a water dispenser and on the other hand holds the tree trunk in place. At least that’s the theory, but how do the models perform in practice? The consumer portal “askgeorge.com” tested five different stands on a 2.70 meter high Nordmann fir. The results of the investigation were the stern provided exclusively.
Test winner: Christmas tree stand Premium L from Krinner
The Christmas tree stand got it with a test grade of 1.0 (very good) Made it to first place. The model (like the others) was examined for four different criteria that were defined in advance: stability, handling, safety and functional scope. To make sure that the results are not falsified, each Christmas tree stand was tested several times in a row. In the foreground, however, was the most important of all questions: Does the fir tree have a firm and secure hold? The answer to this model is clearly yes. The five kilogram Christmas tree stand Premium L from Krinner not only makes a very high quality impression, but is quick and easy to use. In addition to the automatically closing safety device, the model impressed above all with its high level of stability, which is thanks to its all-round one-rope technology. But the integrated water level indicator and its safety bell were also rated positively.
2nd place: Christmas tree stand Comfort M by Krinner
The Christmas tree stand was made by the same brand tested. With a test grade of 1.4 (good), the model secured second place. Similar to its predecessor, the stand was also able to impress with its all-round single-rope technology, which enables high stability. There is also an integrated water level indicator in the stand that shows the maximum capacity. The optics and workmanship also made a very good impression here, and handling is simple and intuitive. But what is even more important: the fir tree stands securely. Thanks to the integrated safety spike, which is anchored in the ground and additionally supports the tree, you don’t have to worry that the fir tree could fall over and bury the tree decorations.
3rd place: Christmas tree stand model 2018 by Star-Max
The Star-Max brand secured bronze with theirs . Here, too, the all-round one-rope technology ensures high stability, and the stand is easy and intuitive to use. Nevertheless, the device “only” received a test grade of 1.6 (good) – due to the foot pedal that the testers only had to operate once after they had released the fuse. Since the bracket snapped up immediately after this step, there is a risk that a child could accidentally loosen the bracket and cause the tree to topple over. The integrated water level indicator in the form of a float was also highlighted here.
4th place: Christmas tree stand Vario Classic from Krinner
A model from the Kinner company was also able to secure fourth place: the Christmas tree stand was rated 1.7 (good) because it has the same positive properties as its predecessor models Premium L and Comfort M. In other words, the handling and workmanship are good, and thanks to the all-round single-rope technology, the fir stands firmly in the stand. On the other hand, it was noticeable that the The Christmas tree stand does not have a water level indicator, although it is significantly more expensive than the other devices. In addition, there is also a safety risk here: as soon as the foot pedal is unlocked, the holder is released immediately when you press it. As a result, the tree can accidentally fall over if a child accidentally loosens the bracket.
5th place: Christmas tree stand G472 from Bosmere
It is not without reason that the G472 Christmas tree stand from in fifth and thus last place in the test series. The decently cheapest model gets a test grade of 1.8 (good), because it guarantees high stability despite its screw technology – but it cannot be installed alone. In order for the fir tree to be attached to the stand, one person has to hold the tree while a second person tightens the individual screws. Then the device can also be filled with water here in order to supply the fir tree and to increase its stability. From a purely visual point of view, the model does not look as high-quality as the others, but in practice it still works just as well as its predecessors.
