Through the Decree 99/2023 published today in the Official Gazette – with the signature of the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo – Lavagna was appointed as director of Indec, thus arranging his continuity in office.
Who is Marco Lavagna
The 49-year-old economist is the son of the former Minister of Economy Roberto Lavagnaand assumed the leadership of Indec in December 2019 with the inauguration of the former president, Alberto Fernandez.
Previously it was national deputy for the City of Buenos Aires between 2015 and 2019 on behalf of the Frente Renovador, and served as second vice president of the Budget and Finance Commission and the Bicameral Commission for Tax Reform.
In addition, he taught at the University of Salvador and at the UCA.
President Javier Milei’s transition team had made Lavagna’s continuity official on last December 6th.
Likewise, it was noted that “its teams are working on a project that will provide the organization with autonomy and autarky so that it stops functioning under the orbit of the “Ministry of Economy of the Nation”
“A new State policy will be established, in which the Indec will be a depoliticized technical organization“, they detailed.
The new appointments in Senasa
On the other hand, the Government appointed, through Decree 97/2023, the agronomist Pablo Cortese and the veterinarian Sergio Robert as president and vice president of the Senasa, respectively, replacing Diana Guillen and Rodolfo Acerbi.
Cortese has been a member of Senasa since 1999, where he served as director of Strategic Phytosanitary Information and, since this year, as national director of Operations.
He is also a professor in the Chair of Plant Production at the Faculty of Agronomy of the University of Buenos Aires, the same department where the new Secretary of Agriculture, Fernando Vilella, He carried out his duties until last November.
Like Cortese, Robert was employed at the Secretary of Agriculture.

In addition, he is a consultant for the livestock and meat market, and was Undersecretary of Agri-Food Quality in the Ministry of Agroindustry of the province of Buenos Aires during the mandate of the former governor, María Eugenia Vidal.
Finally, through Decree 98/2023, the Ministry of Economy appointed Pedro Vigneau as Undersecretary of Productive and Sustainable Strengthening for Small and Medium Agri-Food Producers.
Vigneau, who will respond to Vilella, is Graduate in Agricultural Economics from the University of Belgranoand agricultural producer from the Buenos Aires city of Bolívar.
Likewise, he is honorary president of the Argentine Association of Direct Sowing Producers (Aapresid) – where he was head between 2016 and 2018 – and president of the Argentine Corn and Sorghum Association (Maizar).
Between March and December 2019, he briefly served as Undersecretary of Agroindustrial Markets, during the administration of former President Mauricio Macri.
