According to a flash estimate from Statistics Austria, inflation rose to 5.6 percent in December compared to the same month last year. In November, year-on-year price inflation was still 5.3 percent. Compared to the previous month of November, the price level is likely to have increased by 0.4 percent.

“Especially electricity, which became cheaper in December a year ago due to the electricity price brake, no longer has a price-dampening effect compared to the previous year,” said Statistics Austria in a release on Friday. “In addition, fuel prices weakened inflation significantly less than in previous months.”
