Cashless transactions and the use of ATM cards are becoming increasingly popular in Austria: more than 3 billion money transactions were processed by Payment Services Austria (PSA) for domestic banks last year. The number of ATM card transactions at home and abroad with Austrian cards rose by 14 percent last year to a record 1.5 billion, the PSA said in a release on Monday.
1.4 billion of these payment transactions took place during purchases – 93.5 percent of these payments were contactless, i.e. via NFC. But the joint venture between domestic banks also recorded an increase of 9 percent to 130 million transactions in e-commerce transactions.
