What’s the future like? If Samsung has its way, the television will become the smart home center. And a little companion should also move into the smart home: the spherical robot “Ballie”.
Samsung wants to make its televisions the heart of the connected home. The South Korean electronics giant presented a user interface at the CES technology trade fair in Las Vegas that gives you an overview of various devices in your smart home on the large screen and allows you to control them.
For example, information about room temperature and images from security cameras are brought together there. Networked lamps can also be operated, and the television shows how long the washing machine program is still running. A 3D view of the home will also be added soon.
In the future, the data for this could also be collected by a spherical robot with a camera and other sensors. Samsung showed off the device called “Ballie” in a video. The robot also has a projector that allows it to display videos and other content on walls or ceilings.
“Ballie” can also keep pets entertained with projections on the floor. However, Samsung did not provide any information about whether the device would come onto the market. The company presented a first version of “Ballie” in Las Vegas four years ago.
