The federal government is planning a two-week paid break for partners after the birth of a child. But for when is unclear. SAP is therefore putting similar plans on hold.
The software company SAP has not, as announced in September last year, introduced a model for fathers or other partners to be released from work from the birth of their child. Actually, they should be given six weeks of paid leave from the beginning of the year.
When asked, SAP referred to federal government plans that had not been implemented as planned. “We are taking this as an opportunity to review our own plans in this area,” said a spokesman. The “Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung” had previously reported on it.
Federal Family Minister Lisa Paus (Greens) spoke of a “family start time” in September last year; a two-week paid break was planned for partners after the birth of a child. This is intended to give the partner time to look after the mother and support her in regeneration. The draft law would be discussed within the federal government, it was said at the time. In November 2022, Paus announced implementation for 2024 in an interview.
On Tuesday, a spokesman for the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs said in response to a request that the draft bill for the Family Start Time Act was currently being discussed between the departments. This also applies to questions regarding the timing of the legislative proposal.
