Almost everything has become more expensive, but rental cars for the summer holidays are obviously an exception.
According to data from the Check24 rental portal, rental cars for the summer holidays are cheaper in many holiday destinations than they were a year ago. On average, rental car prices for early bookers are 15 percent cheaper than last year, the Munich-based company said.
According to Check24, the numbers differ from country to country: In Portugal and Spain, rental cars for summer vacations are currently over 20 percent cheaper, while in Turkey they are seven percent more expensive – although, according to Check24, rental cars are still the cheapest there.
Reason for the discounts
The analysis is based on the company’s own data for 15 countries including Germany, as of December 27th. In the Federal Republic, booking a holiday car early is seven percent cheaper than a year ago. In addition to insurance, hotels or flight tickets, the online portal also arranges rental cars – according to its own information from over 300 car rental companies – and therefore has a financial interest in as many bookings as possible.
According to Check24, the reason for the discounts is that many car rental companies have expanded their vehicle fleets again after the corona pandemic. At the same time, demand is also increasing. According to a spokeswoman, rental car bookings for the summer holidays are over 50 percent higher than at the same time in 2022 for the previous summer holidays.
