The prices of the different cuts of beef increased 40.9% in December last with respect to the previous month in the Metropolitan Area (AMBA), rosary beads (Santa Fe) and Cordova. The interanual variation was located in 307.3%
According to the report of the Institute for the Promotion of Argentine Beef (IPCVA)in it AMBAthe price of beef registered a month-on-month variation of 40.9% and 307.3% year-on-year; in Rosario, 40.7% month-on-month and 304.4% year-on-year; and in Córdoba 36.1% month-on-month and 298% year-on-year.
The Ipcva carried out the work during the first and third week of last December with the survey of more than 30,000 prices per week in the places analyzed. Under this methodology in AMBA, Capital Federal and GBA, the sample is restricted to 80 butcher shops and they were surveyed by telephone, the entity clarified, after which it highlighted that “the monitoring of prices in supermarkets was done in 40 points of sale taken in person”. In Rosario and Córdoba the sample surveyed is restricted to 30 butcher shops and 15 supermarkets in each square.
Increases in meat: which rose the most
Regarding the different categories of propertysteer meat showed variations in prices of 38%that of steer 40.3%, that of heifer and calf 46.4% versus the values of November 2023. In averagehe The price of the light category of retail consumption increased by 409% comparing it with the price of the previous month.
Considering the three seats analyzed, the price of the chicken fresh showed a variation of 21.7% in December 2023 with compared to the previous month, and comparing with the values of December 2022, the increase was 239.6%. Meanwhile, the price of pork breast had increases of 39% compared to the previous month and 254.5% versus December 2022.
Meat increased more in low socioeconomic neighborhoods
On the other hand, the survey specifies that “in the points of sale that serve neighborhoods of high socioeconomic level Beef prices had a variation of 36.8%“, “in those who market in the average socioeconomic level, 41.7%“, and “in those who attend to the low socioeconomic level prices increased 41.7%”.
The behavior of beef prices during December 2023 showed increases in all AMBA areas surveyed: South of Greater Buenos Aires (GBA), 45%; Federal Capital, 36.8%; Northern GBA, 42.8%; and Western GBA, 40.1%. By point of sale there are differences during the last month of 2023: prices varied 47.9% compared to the previous month in the butcher shops; while in the supermarkets an increase is observed 25.3%.
