Who are the most sustainable companies, schools, clubs and projects in the country? Together with the state of Upper Austria and the Oberbank, the OÖN is awarding the Feronia sustainability prize for the second time this year – you can also apply below nachrichten.at/feronia in one of the four categories and be among the first applicants.
Katharina Werner, who opened a coffee house called “Buch & Bohne” in Steyr last year that is also a bookstore, has already taken advantage of her opportunity: primarily plant-based food and drinks with a high organic and fair trade content are served there. A large part of the book range is based on circular economy: customers bring books they have read and receive a drink voucher worth one euro for each one. The resale value is three euros. Books that cannot be sold are placed on the open bookshelf or should be recycled in the future. Werner applied in the “Thoroughly sustainable” category.

In the same category is Carina Hanl who will take over her parents’ farm in the future: she runs an organic herb and spice farm in Luftenberg. The company got its name “Safina” from the first spice grown, saffron. Natural cosmetics are also produced. As far as possible, plastic packaging is avoided. “Grow, harvest, dry and process yourself” is the motto.
All applicants are cordially invited to the gala on March 14th.
