After the bankruptcy of Volta Trucks in mid-October, the signs are now pointing to electric truck production at Steyr Automotive again. As reported by the OÖN, discussions are ongoing about this. According to ORF Upper Austria, the new contract should now be ready to be signed and production will start in May.
Steyr Automotive did not respond to a request for comment on the negotiations. “The management does not comment on ongoing negotiations,” said a company spokeswoman.
After bankruptcy, the Swedish start-up Volta Trucks was taken over by the US fund Luxor Capital and negotiations began with the new owners.
This year, 500 electric trucks are expected to be built in Steyr, and next year 2000, as the ORF reported. There are also plans to found a new subsidiary of Steyr Automotive called Steyr Automotive E-Truck GmbH, which will take over the production of electric trucks for Volta.
