From December 1 to December 5, sales of tangerines and sets of sweets increased by a third in volume terms, when compared with the same period a year ago. This is evidenced by the data of the analytical resource “Check Index” of the “Platform OFD” company (the largest operator of fiscal data), which Izvestia got acquainted with.
The company processed 48-50 million cashier’s receipts from more than 1 million online cash registers in the Russian Federation. The average bill for tangerines also increased – by 7% compared to last year – and amounted to 118 rubles. The cost of chocolates upon purchase showed an increase of 11%, up to 641 rubles per 500 g.
The demand for another classic New Year’s product is also increasing – champagne. The volume of sales increased by 8%, as did the average check, which amounted to 468 rubles. The OFD Platform specialists also noted an increase in the number of purchases of soft and plastic toys in the form of holiday characters and cartoon characters. The volume of sales of these goods increased by 23%, and the average check added 13% and reached 951 rubles.
Metro recorded an increase in sales of citrus fruits, a representative of the retailer told Izvestia. The trading network associates this with the updated assortment and attractive prices – during this period, companies can make discounts on products. Sales of gift sets of sweets have grown significantly, added the press service of “Auchan”.
This can be explained by the expansion of the sweet assortment and lucrative promotional offers, the retail chain said. They noted that in the second half of November – early December, sales of champagne remain at the level of last year. An increased demand for sparkling wines in the company is observed at the end of the year, when people begin to prepare for the New Year holidays. In the meantime, Auchan records a slight increase in the price of drinks by 5% compared to the same period in 2020.
