Renault and Nissan also postpone the restart of production due to not being able to pay foreign suppliers

After learning yesterday of the decision by General Motors and Volkswagen to postpone the restart of production, after the holiday break, due to payment problems with foreign suppliers, Renault Argentina joins this group and will not open the Córdoba factory next Monday as planned.

The measure was taken today as a consequence of the problems faced by several local auto parts manufacturers who suffered from a cut in the supply of products by foreign companies, as Ámbito had been reporting.

Sources from the French automaker confirmed to this medium about the postponement of the restart of activity, while pointing out that the measure is for an indefinite period.

Not having a scheduled restart date is due to the complexity of the problem that auto parts manufacturers have.

The models are produced at the Santa Isabel plant. Logan, Sandero, Kangoo and Alaskanbut the decision also affects the Japanese nissan that manufactures the pickup in that establishment Frontier.

Throughout last year, based on the total restrictions on access to foreign currency that the then minister Sergio Massa ordered, automotive companies had to finance their imports to continue producing.

The official’s request to private parties to adopt this policy had the promise of releasing dollars at the official exchange rate in a certain time. That did not happen and he ended his administration without paying those imports, which represents a debt of the terminals abroad of more than US $ 8,000 million.

Given this, international suppliers began to cut supplies. The arrival of the holidays brought some relief, but the return to activity brought the problem to the forefront again.

Javier Milel’s government proposed a bond (Bopreal) to cancel the debt left by the previous administration in four years.

Only Toyota accepted this plan. The other terminals are analyzing it.
