The result of the economics publication ranking by the renowned German magazine “Wirtschaftswoche” is pleasing for the JKU: In a per capita comparison, the Linz researchers in the field of economics are well ahead of their colleagues from the University of Vienna, the WU Vienna and the University of Innsbruck.
What was assessed was not only how many articles the economists published, but also the reputation of the academic journal in which the publication appeared. The ranking is based on figures from the past ten years.
With 30 authors, the JKU achieved a total number of points of 12,532, i.e. 0.4177 points per capita. The University of Vienna achieved 0.3548 per capita points, the WU Vienna 0.3127. Not only Austrian universities were taken into account in the ranking, but also universities in the entire German-speaking region. In this ranking, the JKU achieved an excellent 15th place.
Rudolf Winter-Ebmer, head of the Economics Institute, is delighted with the results of the ranking: “The excellent result of the JKU economists is sensational.”
The faculty has rejuvenated itself in recent years – for example with new “tenure track positions” that have been filled by young scientists. “With this result, we are clearly leaving the other universities in Austria behind us. The JKU is only just behind the top universities in Munich and St. Gallen,” says Winter-Ebmer.
