CGT strike: the complete CAME statement

Small and medium-sized businesses represent the most authentic fabric of Argentina’s real economy. For this reason, CAME always asks for more activity, more production and more sales. “Every month we must face the fixed expenses of our businesses. SMEs are the main generators of registered employment“, expressed González.

The strike will occur within the framework of falls in consumption and the SME industry. According to data from the SME entity, in December retail sales had an annual decrease of 13.7%, when measured at constant prices, and ended last year with a contraction of 3.4% (link to the report) . For its part, the production of SMEs experienced a decrease of 26.9% in December, at constant prices, and 2023 ended with a decline of 2.6% (link to the report).

“Are respectful of union decisions and the right to strike. We understand and we share the uncertainty prevailing situation and the anguish that affects a good part of our population, but we do not believe that a strike is the instrument that “I’m going to reverse this situation,” González highlighted.

CGT strike: what Javier Milei said about the measure of force

In radio statements made this Monday, the President spoke about the general strike of the CGT, the first in his mandate since he took office. He also talked about inflation and insisted that “there will still be turbulence” and the next few months will be difficult for the economy.

President Javier Milei thus attributed the general strike of January 24 to the coexistence of “two Argentinas”, by contrasting that a part of the country that “wants to remain in backwardness, the past and decadence” with “another model” that “puts us on the path to being developed, and that is what we propose.”

“Wednesday’s strike will show that there are two Argentinas: the one that wants to stay in the past and the one that wants the model that wants to be a developed country,” he said this morning in statements to FM Rock & Pop.

Furthermore, the president pointed out that some of the union members of the labor union “understand the nature of the problem” in the economy, referring to the fact that “no jobs have been created in the private sector since 2011.”
