Banner will supply lead-acid batteries for a German car manufacturer until the end of 2023. The original contract would have expired at the end of the year, the existing delivery volume was increased by 15 million euros to 50 million euros.
“It’s not an everyday occurrence for us,” says Franz Märzinger, who is responsible for sales and marketing at Banner. The parties have agreed not to disclose the name of the customer. Banner supplies batteries to BMW, VW and Mercedes (Daimler), for example.
Business in the auto industry is slowly stabilizing after the semiconductor and supply turbulence, says Märzinger. Banner makes a third of its sales with the original equipment of vehicles, the lion’s share are replacement products in the trade and in vehicle workshops. In the current financial year (to the end of March), Banner expects an increase of 3.5 percent. Most recently, 805 employees generated sales of 270 million euros.
