While those willing to buy houses and apartments held back in 2023, tenants have recently overrun the real estate market: the number of people looking for an apartment in this country has almost doubled in major cities since 2022. Demand also rose sharply in rural areas. “For the first time since the fourth quarter, we have not seen a strong increase in demand in the centers,” said Gesa Crockford, managing director of the brokerage platform Immoscout24, at an event organized by the real estate agent Von Poll.
“We are now seeing demand shifting back to the outskirts of cities and the surrounding areas,” says Crockford. This means that residents there will soon have to adjust to rising rents. On the outskirts of the city, new rents are already increasing due to the sudden rush of people looking for apartments, many local price observers reported. And this trend will not stop at the city limits.
