Trade fairs: Spielwarenmesse also shows new products for adults

The toy fair in Nuremberg is the largest of its kind in the world. From today on, almost 2,400 exhibitors from almost 70 countries will show their innovations and classics.

Building blocks, cuddly toys, large and small vehicles and games – new products and industry trends have been on display at the world’s largest toy fair in Nuremberg since Tuesday. This year the focus of the trade fair is on games and toys for adults. From the experts’ point of view, this target group with purchasing power has great potential for the industry.

Toys that appeal to more than just children – for the wooden building block manufacturer Kapla, this is part of the corporate philosophy. “The adults don’t just play with the children to give them fun,” explained inventor Tom van der Bruggen. “They have fun with it themselves, and the children sense that.” Van der Bruggen invented flat wooden blocks in order to be able to recreate buildings such as the Eiffel Tower as well as animals and vehicles.

The table football game Tipp-Kick has also relied on cross-generational play for 100 years, said managing director of the family business from Baden-Württemberg, Matthias Mieg. “You can really take the figures into your hands.” This means it is also suitable for small children and older people who are not interested in computer games.

Playmobil also wants to appeal to young people and adults

Other manufacturers, on the other hand, are just discovering adults playing or want to expand the area. Playmobil, whose theme worlds had previously focused on children up to the age of ten, now wants to appeal to young people and adults with collectible figures of celebrities and manga heroes.

Other focuses of the trade fair include licenses for films, series or computer games and sustainable toys. In addition to products made from renewable raw materials such as bamboo or cork, this also includes toys that are intended to teach children about environmental protection and sustainability. Almost 2,400 exhibitors from almost 70 countries will be presenting at the trade fair until Saturday.
