This was reported by the consulting firm Politikon Chaco, based on data from the National Directorate of Provincial Affairs (DNAP) of the Ministry of Economy, in a report in which it revealed the real retraction of shared resourceswhich comprise 96% of total automatic transfers.
The decrease in these transfers to constant values occurs in a context in which, in addition, the national Government warned that it will resort to cut different discretionary transfers or not automatic to the provinces if the law of “Bases and starting points for the freedom of Argentines” is not sanctioned and compliance with fiscal balance is compromised.
Politikon Chaco highlighted that it is the fifth consecutive real loss “and the third consecutive month where the decrease is double digits”, in what represents “the worst January since at least 2017.”
“Seen at January 2024 prices, the loss of resources for the consolidated provinces and CABA was $369,634 million compared to January 2023,” he added.
Co-participation: which taxes stood out
Shipments by Federal Tax Sharing reached $2,193 billion, with a nominal year-on-year expansion of 224.3% but, in constant currency, the consulting firm estimated a decline of 10.9%.
“Among the main components of the co-participatory mass, there is once again a strong impact due to the drop in income tax collection,” he noted, explaining that this was due to “the changes made by the previous national administration in this tax.” “which involved “a 40.8% decrease in real terms against the same month of the previous year”.
On the contrary, and inversely to the performance observed in December, the Social Security VAT resumed its upward path and closed the month with a nominal expansion of 306.9% and a real expansion of 11.8%.
Among the other components of the co-participation, there were real decreases in Internal Taxes (-13.9%) and in “Other Co-participants” (-36.5%).
