Due to a power failure in the tower, no planes could land or take off at Hamburg Airport for around an hour and a half on Saturday morning. An airport spokeswoman said the runway lighting had also failed due to the technical malfunction.
Because safe air traffic was not possible in this way, operations were discontinued. Individual flights were canceled or diverted to other airports such as Hanover and Bremen, the spokeswoman said.

The effects would have been limited because of the low volume of traffic on Saturday morning.
The spokeswoman could not initially say how many flights were exactly affected. According to the federal police, operations were suspended between 7.45 a.m. and 9.10 a.m.
