Less energy and at significantly lower prices: consumers have to spend significantly less on heating due to the comparatively mild temperatures.
According to an evaluation by the comparison portal Check24, the heating requirement and therefore also the heating costs are significantly lower this winter than a year ago. Due to the comparatively mild temperatures, consumers in Germany “had to use around five percent less energy for heating than in the similarly mild comparison period (September 2022 to January 2023),” said Check24 in Munich. The basis is the data from the German Weather Service since 2011, each for September to January.
At a room temperature of 20 degrees, a model family with an annual consumption of 20,000 kWh of gas or 2,000 liters of heating oil in the reference year 2011 only spent an average of around 1,100 euros during the current mild heating season. That is between 22 and 26 percent less than a year ago.
“Nevertheless, the prices for gas and heating oil are still high,” said energy division boss Steffen Suttner. With the turn of the year, the CO2 price for all fossil fuels has also risen, making heating with oil or gas more expensive.
