Aviation: Union: High participation in pilot strike at Discover

After the end of the pilots’ strike at the Lufthansa subsidiary Discover, the union draws a positive conclusion: the participation was high, which is an impressive sign.

The Cockpit Association union is satisfied with the participation in the pilots’ strike at the Lufthansa subsidiary Discover. The workers had given an impressive show of unity, the union said after the end of the two-day strike. During the strike, the company was only able to operate a small number of flights – and only with the help of aircraft and crews from other Lufthansa Group companies.

VC tariff expert Marcel Gröls warned the company to take the employees’ signal seriously. “We don’t need vague announcements or a social partner charter. Fair collective bargaining conditions are essential for a social partnership worthy of a company of this size,” he said, according to the statement.

It was the third strike by Discover pilots after a five-hour warning strike shortly before Christmas and a regular strike lasting a full day at the end of January. The union is fighting for an initial collective agreement at the company, which was founded two and a half years ago and is intended to compete with holiday airline Condor, among others, with 24 aircraft. The next industrial dispute in the Lufthansa Group is scheduled for Wednesday with a 27-hour warning strike by Lufthansa ground staff.
