The accused Wirecard manager Oliver Bellenhaus is expected to leave the prison in Munich-Stadelheim today. The Munich regional court suspended the arrest warrant and ordered his release from custody, a court spokesman said on Tuesday. The 50-year-old former governor of the payment processor in Dubai had spent more than three and a half years in custody.
Bellenhaus is considered a key witness in the trial surrounding Wirecard’s bankruptcy. He turned himself in to the authorities shortly after the bankruptcy in June 2020 and admitted that a large part of Wirecard’s Asian business was practically invented – which the then CEO Markus Braun denies.

The spokesman said the reason for the release was the long period of imprisonment, his confession and his efforts to make amends for the damage. However, Bellenhaus has to hand in his passport and report to the police regularly.
