The Minister of Economy, Luis Caputoannounced today that the Public Sector closed January “in financial balance”, despite it being a month that is usually “more sensitive due to debt interest.”
“In January we are already in financial balance”Caputo said in statements to the La Nación+ channel, anticipating the report that the Ministry of Finance plans to release on February 22 in this regard.
“We have the expectation of a better second semester,” he said.
At the same time, Caputo justified that the non-approval of the law “does not affect the economic program in the slightest”based on stabilizing the fiscal accounts, because when that initiative that Casa Rosda sent to Congress was created, they included only 20 to 25% of the measures that they had planned to apply from the Ministry of Economy, while 75% of what was devised was by outside the law -which at that time had the tax chapter-.
“We knew that there was always going to be the possibility that it would not happen,” said the official in LN+while stating: “As a minister, I cannot lose my life in that law because what we have put there is very little.”
Caputo’s first message after the defeat in Deputies
The government of Javier Milei suffered a tough defeat on Tuesday in the Congresssince the session was adjourned in which article by article of the omnibus law, after the rejection of several key points of the legislation. In that context, Caputo was the first to speak out on the matter.
”Voting or not on the law will not change the economic course. We will not spend more than we collect. And the Central Bank is not going to finance the treasury,’ he began, referring to the fact that, although the law has failed, they are going to support the economic idea.
”That is what will guarantee that the problems of the last 20 years will not happen again. Let’s not dramatize today. We all know that there are a handful of legislators who want everything to remain the same, even though people voted for a change.” he added.
And finally, he stated: ”The country continues, and everything is going to turn out well, because for the first time in decades, we are doing the right thing.”
