One year after the pandemic, the German tourism industry is almost back to pre-crisis levels.
Last year, the German tourism industry almost left the Corona crisis behind it. 487.2 million overnight stays in hotels and other accommodation establishments in 2023 meant an increase of 8.1 percent compared to the previous year. The record year of 2019 before the pandemic was missed by 1.7 percent, as the Federal Statistical Office reported.
Especially in summer, tourists came back to the holiday resorts as usual. Absolute monthly record values were even recorded in May and September. “Summer tourism has apparently fully recovered from the pandemic and has shown itself to be robust even in the face of a weakening overall economy,” the office described the situation.
The campsites were clearly more popular than before Corona, with 42.3 million registered overnight stays exceeding the 2019 value by a whopping 18.3 percent.
