By 2027, over 30 new shopping and dining options, more recreation areas, lounges, a new security checkpoint and 18 new bus gates are to be built on 10,000 square meters. The construction project has been underway since July 2023, and the intensive construction phase with civil engineering work is now starting, the airport announced on Wednesday. The project will be financed entirely from future cash flow, without loans, said airport board member Günther Ofner, according to a press release. Tenant acquisition for the more than 30 planned shops and restaurants is in full swing. Renowned Austrian and international top brands and premium providers are to move in.

No decisions would be made this year regarding the planned third runway, said board member Julian Jäger in a press conference in January. However, preparations are underway to be able to make decisions in 2025 or 2026. The board assumes a construction period of 7 years. The airport had requested a postponement in 2023 and now has until mid-2033 to complete the construction of the third runway.
