He National Institute of Yerba Mate (INYM) will hold a special session today prices to determine the minimum values of the green leaf and the yerba cantada for the period between April 1 and September 30, in which producers and representatives of the industrial sector will participate.
In mid-January, the Civil Association of Northern Yerba Mate Producers (Acpyn) requested an update in the prices of green leaf and yerba mate leaves, through a note presented to the INYM.
When arguing the request, the producers warned about “the current situation of the yerbatera activity that, based on the latest updates of the values of inputs, fuel, labor, cost of living, has suffered an enormous increase in costs since end of the year here.”
The latest raw material prices were established in the month of November by ruling from the Ministry of Agriculture.
Until January 31, the price per kilo of green leaf is $210 and $798 for yerba canchada. From February 1 to February 29, green leaf is $240 per kilo and dry grass is $912. And in March, the prices will be $250 for a green leaf and $950 for a green leaf.
Producers request an update of around 100% of these values. This could bring the value of a kilo of weed on the shelf for consumers to more than $6,000.
Last week, directors of the INYM met with the Secretary of Industry, Juan Pazo, to address issues related to the operation of the organization that was affected by DNU 70/2023 of President Javier Milei.
Pazo guaranteed that, in the event that there is no unanimity in the INYM board in the special price session, the Nation will issue the corresponding ruling and that in that instance the cost grid will be analyzed point by point to determine the values of the raw material. .
The national official also expressed that as long as the DNU is not regulated, it is not in force, which is why to date the INYM maintains all its powers and attributions, among them that of setting prices for green leaf and yerba mate. .
