Russia’s GDP growth in 2021 may exceed the current official forecast of 4.2%. This was announced on Monday, December 13, by the head of the RF Ministry of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov at a meeting with representatives of the Association of European Businesses (AEB).
“In general, we say that for 10 months we had an increase of 4.6%. According to our estimates, this allows us to expect even slightly better our estimates now than those that we did in August-September at the end of the year, “Reshetnikov said.
Earlier, on November 11, the European Commission (EC) improved its forecast for Russia’s GDP growth for 2021 to 3.9%, while in the spring it expected 2.7%.
On November 5, the international rating agency Moody’s also improved its forecast for Russia’s GDP growth for the current year to 4.8%. The report indicated that economic activity in the country is supported by high commodity prices.
On October 18, Reshetnikov said that the recovery of the Russian economy has been exhausted, so it is unlikely that GDP growth in 2021 will exceed the forecast of 4.2%. According to him, in August, when the forecast was drawn up, many experts said that GDP growth could be higher. The minister noted that business activity has slowed down.
