The utilization of the industry’s installed capacity ended in December of last year at 54.9%. This is the lowest level since June 2020, during the pandemic, when it barely exceeded 53%.

Even the use of machines and tools in the manufacturing sector in December was below the level of November, when it reached 63.8%.

These figures are corroborated by the level of activity presented by the industry, since in December it fell 12.8% compared to the last month of 2022, and 5.4% compared to November.

The sectoral blocks that presented levels of utilization of installed capacity higher than the general level were oil refining with 85%; paper and cardboard, 67.3%; basic metal industries, 64.5%; non-metallic mineral products, 60.8%; chemicals and substances, 58.2%; and food and beverages, 57.4%.

In December 2023, compared to the same month of 2022, the main negative impact was observed in the metalworking industry except automotive, which presented a level of utilization of installed capacity of 37.9%, lower than the 54.6% registered in December. 2022, mainly as a result of the lower manufacturing of agricultural machinery, highlighted Indec.

According to data from the manufacturing industrial production index (manufacturing IPI), the manufacture of agricultural machinery registered a year-on-year drop of 50.7% in December.

A smaller number of units produced and sold of tractors, harvesters, self-propelled and trailed sprayers, seeders, and certain lines of implements were observed, the agency reported.
