The state of Upper Austria is increasing the income limits for housing subsidies by around 30 percent. From April 1st, people who earn up to 50,000 euros net per year will be able to benefit from housing subsidies. The limit is currently 39,000 euros.

For two people it should go up from 65,000 to 85,000. In the future, 7,500 instead of 6,000 euros will be taken into account for each additional person. The draft for the amended regulation was reviewed on Monday.

“If you do something, you should be able to afford something. “With the increase, we are in the top group nationwide when it comes to income limits,” said State Governor Thomas Stelzer (VP). “After an extensive evaluation and careful research, we came to the conclusion that the income limits need to be increased,” said Deputy Governor and Housing Officer Manfred Haimbuchner (FP), referring to “the high construction prices, the massive increase in financing costs and the unspeakable KIM Regulation (stricter lending rules, note)”.

SP housing spokesman Peter Binder reacted to the announcement: The increase in income limits was “nice”. However, he called for the state loan to be doubled to at least 150,000 euros.
