He governor of the province of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof, called this Monday to work on a project Buenos Aires gondola law when leading a meeting with SME representatives who participate in the “Bonaerense Production” program and actors from the television network retail and wholesale marketing.
“We want to give visibility to Buenos Aires suppliers so that they can offer new brands that add variety and price references in the current context,” said the governor after the meeting with representatives of SMEs in the Golden Room of the Government House.
In that sense, in a statement it was noted that during the meeting the governor highlighted the importance of the Gondolas Law –now repealed by the national government – and a line of work was proposed to develop a similar project for the province of Buenos Aires.
Kicillof indicated that, given the current context, they are “observing what happens when the State abandons its responsibilities: what prevails in the market are the laws that favor concentration and harm producers and consumers”.
In addition, he highlighted that during the meeting they “heard first-hand what is happening based on an economic policy of the national government that deliberately aims to destroy income.”
“After the devaluation and withdrawal of the State, an unprecedented drop in consumption and the purchasing power of workers is being recorded in Argentina.”he added.

What is the gondola law
A decree by Javier Milei repealed the Gondola Law “for “That the State stops interfering in the decisions of Argentine merchants”.
The regulations, sanctioned in February 2020, establish in their text that the objective is “contribute to making the price of food, beverages, hygiene and household cleaning products transparent and competitive, for the benefit of consumers”.
What does the Gondola Law that Javier Milei repealed say?
One of the 30 laws that Milei announced their modification or repeal through a national chain is the Law 27,545, known as the Gondola Law, which aims to promote a greater range of products in the large supermarket chains, both in its physical and virtual branches. Furthermore, it seeks to enable the SMEs, cooperatives and also ventures of the family agriculture also have equitable access to space on the gondolas.
In this way, the law that Milei seeks to repeal establishes that; there must be a 30% maximum of the sales space (physical or virtual) that is for a product category by supplier; requires that, at least, there must be five suppliers of different business groups; that the cooperatives, mutuals and/or companies of the family agriculture have at least one 5% of the space in the gondola; that there be, at least, 25% of the sales space for each category of products for micro and small businesses. Likewise, the Secretariat of Internal Trade may set a maximum percentage of sales space for products that are importedfor each category.
