It affects the destinations Olbia, Rijeka, Split and Tirana. A total of 84 routes would be offered in the summer flight schedule, and the Irish are expecting their traffic volume to increase by 15 percent in 2024 to a new record number of seven million passengers.
Today, Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary used the expansion of the destinations to make an all-round attack. While the “state-subsidized AUA” in Vienna did not record any significant growth compared to pre-Covid numbers, his company more than doubled the pre-Covid traffic volume last year – from 2.7 to 6 million in 2023.
O’Leary deals heavily against the AUA
“Ryanair offers more choice, more competition and lower fares. In comparison, the state-subsidized Lufthansa subsidiary AUA still charges 500 percent higher fares than Ryanair, delivering no growth but only a minimal increase of 1 percent from 2019 to 2023,” said the Irish airline in a press release.
