President Javier Milei referred to the issue of dollarization in the framework of the meeting he had with number 2 of the IMF, Gita Gopinath Thursday afternoon.
”Argentina will advance in a currency competition system that includes the devalued local peso,” Milei said Thursday in an interview broadcast on the TN television channel, after a meeting with the senior official of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
In relation to this, he mentioned that “The system of free currency competition is a prior step to dollarization”.
In addition, Milei described the meeting with Gopinath as ”very good” and ”very easy to get along with” because he is an economist. She assured that the IMF is “willing to accompany us” in the adjustment plan and in a hypothetical review of the agreement.
“The IMF promised to continue accompanying us and that means that, if they are willing, it is to endorse a program. Their position is to work alongside us, they are committed to our success, they think it is good. For them it is an emblematic case. We have just done an unthinkable adjustment,” highlighted the national leader in statements to the Todo Noticias (TN) channel.
In addition, Milei highlighted the management of the Minister of Economy in the “cleanup of the Central Bank.”
“To have an idea of the consolidation that Caputo is doing in the Central Bank: the monetary base did not change, but we issued money to buy dollars and for remunerated reserves. I have the same monetary base that I had at the beginning,” added the President.
