The regional water association is sounding the alarm: The Tesla factory in Brandenburg is expected to release up to six times as much hazardous substances into the wastewater system initiated as permissible and thereby endangering Berlin’s drinking water supply. Is there a threat of production stopping now?
The worst fears of residents and environmentalists seem to be coming true: Since the US car manufacturer Tesla opened its first European “Gigafactory” in Grünheide, Brandenburg in March 2022, many citizens in Berlin and Brandenburg have been worried about their drinking water. Measured values are said to show that Tesla has been constantly and significantly releasing too much phosphorus and total nitrogen into the wastewater system for around two years – by up to six times.
