The so-called median fee rose by just 26 euros last year. The reason is obvious: the corona pandemic and its consequences.
The median income in Germany rose only slightly in 2020 due to the corona pandemic – it even fell in manufacturing and hospitality.
This was announced by the Federal Employment Agency in its annual salary evaluation in Nuremberg. Above all, the short-time work, which has led to lower earnings, has slowed the increase.
The median wage of all full-time employees subject to social security contributions was 3427 euros last year, which is 26 euros above the previous year. Without the effects of the pandemic, the median would have increased by a further 69 euros, according to the Federal Agency.
In 2020 there was an increase in insurance services (plus 111 euros), in health and social services (plus 80 euros) and in education and teaching (plus 77 euros).
The median wage describes the value from which there are just as many lower as higher incomes. The average income, however, is higher.
In general, according to the figures from the Federal Agency, large companies usually earn more than smaller companies. A good education, especially an academic degree, offers a good chance of higher earnings. In eastern Germany people still earn less than in the west, even if the differences are melting away.
