Tourism: Tui Germany expects a strong travel season

Business at the travel group Tui is in full swing. The classic beach holiday continues to be particularly popular.

Thanks to increased demand, Tui Germany is on track for a strong travel season. “Our early bird business is in full swing with a large share of new customers of over 40 percent,” reported Tui Germany boss Stefan Baumert at the International Tourism Exchange (ITB) in Berlin (March 5th to 7th).

Summer bookings at Tui Germany are currently in double-digit growth. “We continue to see a high level of willingness to travel and expect an overall strong season.”

According to a YouGov survey commissioned by Tui at the beginning of February, around two thirds of the more than 2,000 respondents want to travel this year. Almost 30 percent said they had already booked. 34 percent are planning one or more vacation trips without booking. According to other surveys, people in Germany also have a great desire to travel. Almost 70 percent of those surveyed by YouGov are planning a trip abroad. Destinations in neighboring countries (33 percent) and on the Mediterranean (29 percent) are particularly in demand; 18 percent are planning a long-distance trip. 31 percent of those surveyed want to go on vacation in Germany.

According to the survey, the classic beach holiday with sun, beach and sea is still at the top of the popularity scale (37 percent). City trips come in second place with 32 percent, followed by holiday home vacations with 24 percent. Multiple answers were possible.

According to the survey, bookings are made primarily online. However, one in three (34 percent) of 25 to 34 year olds said they wanted to book more often with a travel agency. “Surprisingly, the rate is significantly higher than among older target groups,” said Benjamin Jacobi, Managing Director of Sales and Marketing at Tui Germany. For those over 55, the figure is 14 percent.
