For months, customers of the tour operator itravel have been reporting repeatedly about canceled or unpaid hotels at their vacation destination. They worry about whether they will get their money back. Is their fear justified? A search for clues in Cologne and Luxembourg.
The color palette in the commercial area on the eastern outskirts of Luxembourg City is gray. Gray concrete buildings, parked cars, hardly a spot of green. The building at 9 Rue de Bitbourg, between the employment office and the tire manufacturer, is also gray.
This is where the itravel Group SA, the holding company of the financially stumbling Cologne luxury travel provider itravel, is supposed to have its headquarters. At least that’s what itravel boss Axel Schmiegelow had entered in the Luxembourg commercial register. But do the companies in this group really exist there? star and “Capital” have embarked on a search for clues. The results of this research probably won’t necessarily reassure Schmiegelow’s customers.
