Strengthening independence only works with infrastructure expansion. The aim is to bring more liquid gas and Norwegian gas to Austria. The Council of Ministers also passed an entire package to expand renewable energy sources and the electricity grid. These include the Electricity Industry Act, the Renewable Gas Act, some regulations and also the Renewable Energy Expansion Acceleration Act, which had been awaited for a long time. For example, anyone who wants to feed electricity from a photovoltaic system into the grid should be able to do so and not be restricted by a lack of capacity.
The government also announced “tightened instruments of competition control” in the energy sector – because the lower wholesale prices would be passed on to customers with a delay.
In Upper Austria, the Neos, VP and FP are using a joint initiative in the state parliament to call on the federal government to extend electricity price compensation for industry until 2030.
