FAS refused to “Vostochny Soyuz” in the merger with the retailer “Komandor”

The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia has rejected the petition of the retailer Vostochny Retail Networks LLC (Vostochny Soyuz) for consent to act as an executive body of Komandor Trade Network LLC. This is stated in the message of the department, which was received by Izvestia on Thursday, December 16.

The antimonopoly authority believes that the deal could lead to restriction of competition in the market and negatively affect suppliers. In the event of its conclusion, “a united group of persons may occupy a dominant position” in the food retail market in a number of municipalities of the Irkutsk Region and Krasnoyarsk Territory.

The Vostochnye Retail Networks company united the leading retail chains of Eastern Siberia and the Far East, which are part of the Samberi, Krasny Yar and Slata groups of companies. The Krasnoyarsk holding “Komandor” operates a chain of grocery stores in Eastern Siberia.

Earlier on Thursday, the FAS Russia issued a warning to the management of Agrotorg LLC (Pyaterochka retail chain) about the need to reduce prices for some socially significant food products in the Lokomotivny urban district of the Chelyabinsk region. The regulator also called on Agrotorg to reduce food prices to the general level in this network in the region.
