Germany wants to become an important player in the chip industry. But where should the skilled workers needed for this come from? A tech start-up from Münster tried to hire them – and had adventurous experiences with the local bureaucracy.
In the summer, the federal government announced that it would use billions in subsidies to bring chip giants Intel and TSMC factories to eastern Germany. Where exactly she intends to get the money from has been unclear since the Constitutional Court’s budget ruling. The German offensive in the important semiconductor industry is still planned. Apart from the financial aspect, however, there is a completely different question: Where should the skilled workers for the chip factories actually come from?
