Aviation security personnel: Verdi is also calling for warning strikes on Friday

The waves of strikes in air traffic in Germany are not ebbing away – on the contrary. After another strike on Thursday, there will also be work stoppages at several airports the following day.

The Verdi union also called on aviation security staff to go on warning strikes at several German airports on Friday. This was announced by Hanover Airport. It initially remained unclear which airports besides Hanover were affected.

Verdi has already called on aviation security forces to carry out warning strikes again at five German airports this Thursday. According to the union, the all-day strike will gradually affect Hamburg, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe/Baden Baden, Cologne and Berlin airports over the course of the night. Passengers can no longer enter the security area. An expansion of the strike had not previously been ruled out.

According to the airport association ADV, around 90,000 passengers will have to prepare for flight cancellations and delays due to the announced warning strike on Thursday at the five German airports. The association is currently expecting more than 580 canceled flight connections on Thursday alone.

Aviation security collective bargaining concerns the working conditions of around 25,000 employees of private security service providers. On behalf of the Federal Police, they check passengers, staff and luggage at the entrances to the security area.

So far, five rounds of negotiations in the collective bargaining dispute have failed to produce any results. During the first wave of warning strikes at eleven airports, more than 1,100 flights were canceled. Verdi is calling for an hourly wage increase of 2.80 euros over a period of twelve months, with overtime bonuses starting more quickly from the first hour of overtime.
