The entire New Year’s table in 2021 will cost Russians 6286 rubles against 5729 rubles in 2020, not counting alcoholic beverages. This is stated in a study of the online food delivery service Sbermarket, which was received by Izvestia on Friday, December 17.
The traditional New Year’s table consists of vegetable and meat cuts, salad Olivier, “Mimosa” and herring under a fur coat, sandwiches and tartlets with cheese or caviar, hot meat and fish dishes, desserts, tangerines, compote and carbonated drinks. Analysts focused on the average prices of all ingredients for cooking.
This year, Russians began to prepare for the New Year in early December, buying long-term storage goods for the festive table.
So, in the first two weeks of December, citizens bought twice as much red caviar than in the same period a year ago. Compared to November, the demand for caviar increased by 32%. November and December are the months of highest demand for caviar, the lowest demand is observed in April and June. One can usually buy one can of this product at a time. Most often, this delicacy is purchased by residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg, Samara, Yekaterinburg, Rostov-on-Don, Novosibirsk and Krasnodar.
In the period from December 10 to 17, compared with a week earlier, the sales of meat delicacies and pâtés increased by 22% over the last month, they are bought twice as often as caviar – they are in 10% of grocery baskets. In the regions, residents of Krasnoyarsk, Krasnodar, Yekaterinburg, Volgograd and Tyumen are most interested in them.
Sales of cheese and spices grew by 5%, olives by 23%, and tangerines doubled. The demand for mayonnaise increased slightly – by several percent. In one online order, users put on average two packs of this sauce. Canned vegetables and pickles are now in 21% of grocery baskets – an increase of 3 pp. per month, sweets – 16% – an increase of 5 p.p. respectively.
“Sales of champagne have grown sixfold month-on-month, wines – threefold, in one order, on average, two bottles of alcoholic beverages. They can be ordered online with a pick-up service from the store, ”the study says.
The demand for dishes and glasses jumped 20% in December. Sales of candles and home decorations have doubled, and garlands have grown by a third, and they are sold as much as artificial Christmas trees. The most active buyers of Christmas trees this year are Moscow, St. Petersburg, Samara, Rostov-on-Don, Novosibirsk, Krasnodar, Yekaterinburg and Ufa.
In early December, a study was published, according to which the cost of Olivier and herring under a fur coat increased significantly over the year. A portion of Olivier for four people, according to Rosstat, will now cost 416 rubles, which is 15% more expensive than in 2020. Herring under a fur coat will cost 209 rubles, which is 25% more than last year’s price.
