Energy: Environmental associations demand adoption of solar package

The solar package is about reducing bureaucratic hurdles when expanding solar energy. The operation of balcony power plants should become easier.

Several environmental associations are calling for a legislative package to expand solar energy to be passed as quickly as possible. The Federal Cabinet had already decided on the so-called solar package in mid-August, and since then it has been the Bundestag’s turn. There is a lack of a “constructive and solution-oriented culture of debate,” the associations wrote in a joint statement.

The actions of individual actors are irresponsible. “This delaying tactic is increasingly eroding not only the necessary climate protection, but also acceptance among the population,” said BUND, Deutsche Umwelthilfe, Germanwatch, NABU, Munich Environmental Institute, WWF Germany and the environmental umbrella organization German Nature Conservation Ring. They accused the FDP of a “blockade stance”.

FDP parliamentary group deputy Lukas Köhler dismissed the allegations as “wild allegations”. “The FDP parliamentary group has always advocated for a quick conclusion of the solar package this week,” he told the German Press Agency in Berlin. “Unfortunately, this has not yet been possible with all coalition partners. However, I hope that everyone involved will soon become aware of the urgency so that we can decide on the solar package in the next week of the meeting.”

Green parliamentary group leader Katharina Dröge put pressure on Tuesday for a quick adoption of the solar package in the Bundestag and called on the coalition partners to do this in the next week of the Bundestag session – i.e. in the second week of April. “I cannot understand why it takes so long to negotiate de-bureaucratization in parliament,” Dröge explained.

The solar package is intended to remove bureaucratic hurdles for the expansion of solar energy in Germany and thus advance the expansion. The operation of balcony power plants should become easier or the use of self-generated photovoltaic electricity in apartment buildings. The options for solar systems in fields and fields should also be expanded.
