Strong contraction in consumption. In January, Sales in supermarkets and wholesalers at constant prices decreased by 13.8% compared to the same month in 2023. Compared to December, it fell 3.4% compared to the previous month, reported this afternoon by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses of the Argentine Republic (INDEC).

The average ticket was $13,857. Regarding payment methods, the most chosen were both debit cards ($355,548 million) and credit cards ($435,277 million). For its part, cash had a flow of $232,481 million. As for the channels, the sales room continues to be the most sought after option with $1,071,681 million and online channels had $31,402.


Wholesale self-services also register heavy losses
In January, The total sales index at constant prices fell 8.1% compared to the same month in 2023. For its part, the seasonally adjusted series fell 1.9% compared to the previous month and the trend-cycle series index registered a negative variation of 1.9% compared to the previous month.

Shopping centers: strong contraction
The total sales at current prices in January of 2024 surveyed in the survey reached a total of 208,388.3 million pesos, which represents an increase of 165.3% compared to the same month of the previous year.
However, total sales at constant prices reached a total of 4,705.4 million pesos, which represents a drop of 21.3% compared to the same month of the previous year.
