The fronts in collective bargaining between the Lufthansa subsidiary and the Vida union have hardened. Due to an impending strike, the airline is now canceling around 400 flights.
A tariff conflict led to numerous flight cancellations at the Lufthansa subsidiary Austrian Airlines (AUA) at the beginning of Easter. Due to a 36-hour strike threatened by the Vida union for Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, the Austrian airline is canceling around 400 flights on these two days.
As the AUA announced, around 50,000 passengers are affected. “All passengers will be rebooked on the next possible flight,” it said. The airline also offered free cancellations and fare refunds. Specifically affected are flights that fell between midnight on March 28th and 12 noon on March 29th.
The fronts between AUA management and the union have hardened. In collective bargaining, the company said it offered a salary increase of up to 18 percent for flight attendants and pilots. According to the union, the present offer only covers inflation. In principle, employees see a need to catch up when it comes to aligning AUA salaries with those of the rest of the Lufthansa Group.
