There is an increase of more than 300% since April and they define how it will be adjusted each month

The increase that was implemented starting this month represents a 300% average jump. In the reasons for making the adjustment, the Government mentions the emergency of the national energy sector, declared on December 16, 2023, as well as remembering the path started since National executive towards honesty of service prices and the restructuring of the subsidy system.

“It is appropriate to proceed with a temporary adjustment of transport rates and gas distribution in order to maintain, in real terms, the income levels of the providers, so that they allow investment needs to be covered with the required quality standards, guaranteeing the sustainability of public service until the moment of entry into force of the tariff tables resulting from the tariff review process,” the resolutions allege.

The measure was made official just a week ago and, now, the Executive published in the Official bulletin the Transition Rate Tables and Rates and Charges for Services for all distribution companies in the country, among which are Metrogas, Transportadora Gas del Sur, Gasnor, Nartugy BAN, Cuyana Gas Distributor, Central Gas Distributor, Litoral Gas, NEA Gas, Camuzzi Gas Pampeana and Redemptions.

Furthermore, through various resolutions, the National Gas Regulatory Entity (ENARGAS) approved the monthly rate update formula, which takes into account the areas of residence; consumption charges; wholesale prices, known as Point of Entry to the Transportation System (PIST); transportation and distribution.

Gas rates: how much increase will residential users pay

In the April bill that will be paid in May the Level 1 users ( high income) and non-residential will pay between US$2.70 and US$2.95 per million BTU.

For their part, the N2 users (low income with social rate) will pay for gas between US$0.74 and US$0.78 per million BTU starting next month. The N3 (Average Income) will pay between US$1.10 and US$1.17 per million BTU. Obviously these Two groups will pay in full for consumption that exceeds the subsidized block.

As an example, the fixed values that users of the Metrogas company will have will vary depending on their category and the area in which they live. In that sense, those who belong to the R1 category and live in Federal capital will have a fixed cost $2,122.22 and those who live in the Buenos Aires province They will pay $2,554.77 base. The most expensive fixed values correspond to the R3 categories and 3rd and 4th subzones, which will have a value of $22,198.39 and 52,852.51, respectively in the Federal Capital and $17,157.61 and $28,722.14, in the Buenos Aires territory.

Another important fact is that in addition to this increase, from May they will be adjusted monthly for the impact of the dollar on the price of gas and due to inflation in the remuneration of transporters and distributors.

This is what the Official Gazette specifies: “for the purposes of transferring gas prices to the tariff tables of natural gas distribution services through networks, the SECRETARY OF ENERGY instructed ENARGAS to convert to dollar per million BTU using a factor of 27.10473; and? the exchange rate to be used to transfer gas prices to rates be the average value of the selling exchange rate of the BANCO DE LA NACIÓN ARGENTINA (Currency) observed between the 1st and 15th of the month immediately preceding the transfer of prices (Article 5)”.
